This is a short clip from an intense thunderstorm, recorded from my second story queens apartment from an open bathroom window during the early afternoon of july 15, 2015. Some traffic and airplanes can be heard in the background. This clip was recorded using an apple iphone 6 and the zoom iq6 x/y stereo microphone with a rode dead kitten windscreen at low volume, normalized later. This recording lasts until the battery on my iphone hit 5%, at which point the zoom handy recorder app automatically stopped.

A recording made around 7:30pm at night in mid october of 2012 of leaves skittering across an asphalt street, making that unique, crackly sound. You will also hear a train off in the distance which i think adds to the sound-scape of fall. At 1:51 into the recording a car whooshes buy and with it, a cluster of leaves trailing behind it trying in vain to keep up. . . That's always been a wonderful sound sequence for me to hear. Zoom h4n 2018 - onboard microphones. This is an unprocessed recording of the pilot light being repeatedly lit and then extinguished on a natural gas fire globe. This would be perfect for the sound of any gas device being lit such as a grill, boiler, pool heater, water heater, stove, oven, etc. . . A beautiful call of the eastern phoebe. . . This call is also a very unique call in the bird-world. In the eastern and midwestern united states, these are usually the first to arrive in the spring. I have seen these many times as i hike in the deep woods, but this was a nice surprise for me to hear one, literally, in my backyard about 7 o:clock in the morning. I recorded this one in my backyard -- i live in a small town in a rural area. A nice ambient recording made on sunday morning may 5th 2013 around 6:30 in the morning in the shawnee national forest in deep southern illinois. I had originally wanted to get good, clear recordings of the tremendous numbers of warblers that are here, but a good, soaking steady light rain decided to stick around. I though, what the heck, that is a part of our natural world also, so let's get it all "on tape". . . . Hope you enjoy this. At this time of the year a lot of the summer neo-tropical migrant songbirds either have left for their winter home, or, are quieting down and preparing to leave. During this transition period in early fall the woods are not as loud as, say, three weeks ago. Even the insects seem subdued. At around 12 seconds into this recording you hear the squeaky call of a tree-frog. A rumble of thunder from a storm over 50 miles away over the irish sea from an mcs during july 2016. The atmospheric conditions of that night, along with the lack of other noise allowed sounds to be heard much further than they normally would.
